Dhofar Khareef Book Fair Opens in Salalah, Oman



Salalah – The Dhofar Khareef Book Fair 2024 kicked off on Monday in Salalah, promising an exciting two-week celebration of literature and culture. Organized by Southern Sail Exhibitions in collaboration with Dhofar Municipality, the event was inaugurated by Sheikh Tariq bin Khalid al Hinai, Wali of Taqah.


This year's fair boasts participation from around 35 publishing houses and libraries, both local and international. The event's timing coincides with the monsoon season, attracting a substantial number of tourists to the region, making it an ideal period for such a literary festival.


Salem bin Mohammed al Yafei, Supervisor of the book fair, emphasized the event's significance. He remarked:


The fair aims to raise awareness on the importance of books and features a diverse range of publications that target different segments of society.

The fair indeed offers a broad spectrum of literary works, catering to varied interests and age groups.



Visitors can look forward to a rich array of cultural activities, including seminars, workshops, and engaging sessions with authors. Notable participants include the Dhofar branch of the Writers Association, Al Jazer Association, and the Ithra Cultural Initiative, all contributing to the fair's vibrant atmosphere.


The Dhofar Khareef Book Fair serves as a vital platform for literary engagement and cultural exchange, highlighting the crucial role of books in society. It aims to foster a love for reading among all age groups and underscores the enduring power of literature to unite and inspire communities.


The book fair comes within the framework of Dhofar Cultural and Sports Festival 2022. The event sees the participation of 54 publishers and bookstores from Oman and other countries.
